Alex Meda

Alexandra Meda (she/Ella) is a nationally recognized cultural strategist, artistic director, and transformation architect who guides arts institutions through justice-centered governance restructuring and systemic change. With twenty years of experience stewarding collaborative leadership models, she combines devised theater expertise with organizational development to help institutions move from fragmentation to coherence during periods of radical reimagining.

As founder and Lead Facilitator of Culture Change Lab, Meda specializes in supporting transitions into multi-person leadership teams and governance relationship dynamics. Her expertise includes facilitating executive team integration, mediating coalition building, stewarding retreat and strategic planning, anti-oppression training, and designing collaborative decision-making processes. Supporting A.R.T./New York through leadership accountability and their successful transition to shared executive leadership 2020-2022 was a pivotal experience focusing her work on collaborative transformation. Her broader client portfolio spans impactful arts and culture organizations such as Sundance Institute, Harvard's American Repertory Theater, The Walt Disney Company, Center Theater Group, and New York Stage + Film. Organizations and collectives consistently report strengthened values embodiment, equitable protocols, and enhanced capacity for navigating complexity and generative conflict following her facilitation.

Meda's transformation methodology is rooted in nearly two decades of artistic leadership as Artistic Director of Studio Luna (formerly Teatro Luna, est. 2000), one of the nation's longest-running Latinx and Women of Color ensembles. Since 2006, she has evolved the collective's collaborative creation model to center marginalized voices while maintaining artistic excellence and financial sustainability. Her ensemble-based approach to shared power and collective decision-making provides a proven framework for the collaborative leadership structures now emerging across the cultural sector.

Currently serving in strategic relationship-building roles across the field, Meda is Lead Producing Director for Network of Ensemble Theaters, Impact Director at National New Play Network, and Executive Committee member and Co-Chair of External Relations of Twenty43, an interdisciplinary impact investment fund for intersectional storytellers. Her facilitation work with Penumbra Theatre's Center for Racial Healing and board service with the André Cailloux Center for Performing Arts and Culture Justice and Michael’s Daughter Foundation position her as a trusted bridge-builder between BIPOC-centered organizations and broader field infrastructure.

A founding year artEquity facilitation training alum, Meda continues her relationship with aE as a co-producer of the 2025 Alumni Gathering, national facilitator for the Getty Emerge Fellows and BIPOC Leadership Circle. Her deep expertise in supporting leadership teams through power-sharing transitions and her commitment to centering BIPOC voices in institutional transformation make her uniquely positioned to support organizations building more just and collaborative futures.
